My name is Brendan Lake and I will be running the Boston Marathon 2017 for the Lingzi Foundation. Born on the West Coast and raised in Portland, Oregon, I originally came to New England to attend the University of Hartford in Connecticut. After completing my undergraduate degree, and eventually my MBA, I decided that Boston was the place for me to settle, and relocated to Charlestown in 2014.

I was involved in athletics my whole life, and played Division I lacrosse in college. Looking to stay active and continue to challenge myself after graduation, I completed my first half marathon in the Berkshires in 2015 and completed my first half Ironman later that summer. The notion of completing a marathon had always been in the back of my mind, but the right opportunity had never presented itself.

From the first time I visited the city, I fell in love with it. I couldn’t help but notice the energy that the City of Boston and its residents produced. The grittiness of Bostonians, the forward-thinking, youthful culture, and the rich tradition and history that define Boston were all alluring to me. I recall the first day of spring after our record-breaking snowy winter, and the masses of runners on the promenade taking advantage of the sunny weather and fresh air below the Boston skyline. That was the moment I knew that I had to make the Boston Marathon my first.

I feel privileged to be running this race for the Lingzi Foundation, which embodies the spirit of Lingzi, the people of Boston, and the city as a whole, and I am honored to have the opportunity. Thank you for your support.
